Aims and Objectives of the Governing Body
The main aim of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership and be the school's accountable body. It is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards. The Governing Body also aims to ensure that the children are attending a successful school which provides them with a good education and supports their well-being.
The main objectives are:
- set the aims and objectives for the school
- set the policies for achieving the aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving the aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend).
The Governing Body is made up of 2 committees which meet twice a term:
Curriculum Provision Committee
The objective of this committee is to ensure that all pupils at Northlands Wood Primary Academy have access to a balanced curriculum in a supportive learning environment giving them the opportunity to achieve their potential academically and socially. This entails close monitoring, review and scrutiny of data to ascertain all pupil's progress. The committee supports the school leadership team in setting high expectations for each pupil's progress and reduce barriers to learning at strategic level.
The purpose of the Resources Committee is to discuss Finance, Personnel Issues (including pay), Health and Safety and all matters relating to the building and school site. The main responsibilities are: to provide guidance to the Governing Body on all financial matters; approve the annual budget and to receive regularly updated reports provided by the Business Manager and to ensure the school hold appropriate financial records; to monitor all staff appointments, regularly reviewing the staffing structure, taking into account the school's development plan and determine pay scales and levels for all staff; to ensure Health and Safety regulations are complied to, carry out an annual tour and inspection of the school building and site with the Premises Officer, reporting back any major issues to the Full Governing Body.
